Did they not move boxes to the rooms they belonged in from the get-go? Clothes to bedrooms, sporting equipment to the garage, kitchen appliances to the kitchen, etc? That’s how I do it!
Welcome to the new home, Phil and Georgia and now goodbye to you for 3 years.
Lynn Johnston’s mother, Ursula M. Ridgway, passed away Sept 22, 1989, after a brave and lengthy battle of cancer, at age 70.
In comic strip reprint time, that would translate to September this year.
Then what happened was described very politely by Lynn’s daughter Kate in her 2015 biography The Comic Art of Lynn Johnston:
Lynn’s openness, over the years, about her tenuous relationship with her mother has, at times, caused friction within the family. The people who were close to Ursula adored her.
One of the persons with whom she had friction was Lynn’s brother, the real-life Phil. Their estrangement from each other after the funeral led to Phil and Georgia exiting the comic strip for 3 years. See you later, Phil and Georgia.
I moved witha 2 month old and a 2 year old. My husband and I were so exhausted from just dealing with the kids that it took me 2 months to get everything unpacked.
My loving bride and I went looking for a house…In two hours found one….Put $250 deposit on it…down payment was $1400… Still here 45 years now….Panel three looks like our basement….

It looks like a dump! And…I would not doubt that he will expect Georgia to do all of the work. Don’t they have a little baby? Where is the baby stuff?

Looks like somebody might be a hoarder.

If I were ‘Georgia’, I wouldn’t get ‘too cuddly’ with ‘Phil’ after the way he treated me ‘on the move’ ! ! ! !

the poor gal, the man doesn’t even see that serious moving is still not done, but in his mind it is. All she sees right now is mountains of work.

There is an unnerving amount of truth in the last panel.

Having moved over 17 times (USN 30 years). I have actually moved boxes from house to house many times without unpacking them.

When they saw the house and toured it with the owners, it was in good shape. Must have gone down hill in the last several weeks….

Looks to me like they’re in the garage. It was raining and they needed somewhere to put the furniture fast. It’ll all work out when the sun comes out…
