LOL This made me think of Larry Fine

    Larry: I can’t see! I can’t seer!

    Moe: Why?

Larry: I’ve got my eyes closed.

While understood to convey concern, that is rather a silly question. (Why were you awake?) Because I wasn’t asleep seems to be a perfectly fine answer to me under those circumstances. A better question might be, ‘Worried about something, or just couldn’t sleep?’.

Most of the time when I can’t sleep it is because of worry of some sort, usually work related

Occasionally when I know I have a big day at work I’ll catch myself waking up early as if I have an exciting day ahead, makes me wonder what is wrong with my head

This sounds like me… pretty much every day. Stupid insomnia. And I don’t drink coffee, either…

Then it means they didn’t get enough sleep and are using a stimulant. Not healthy.
