Miss Lee seems sweet. An idea thatâs come to me a few times (like, every time Walt visits the Old Comics Home):The usual hijinks with retired characters goes on for a few days. Then Phyllis appears. She tells Walt itâs time for him to stay. They embrace, and then we see Skeezix outside the Home, wiping away a single tear.
While there is a Mutts comic, Mutt and Jeff actually started out as A. Mutt, with just Mutt. It started the âcomic stripâ format way back. On Wikipedia, it says:
Mutt and Jeff is a long-running and widely popular American newspaper comic strip created by cartoonist Bud Fisher in 1907 about âtwo mismatched tinhornsâ. Historians regard Mutt and Jeff, originally titled A. Mutt, as the first American newspaper cartoon published as a strip of panels, as opposed to a single panel, making it the first âcomic stripâ to successfully pioneer that since-common format. ⊠A. Mutt, the comic strip that would be better known by its later title, Mutt and Jeff, debuted on November 15, 1907 on the sports pages of the San Francisco Chronicle.
Some of the best comic strips donât always have to go for the big, more obvious laughs & Patrick McDonnellâs âMuttsâ is one of them. âMuttsâ is about charm & visual appeal, especially the Sunday strips!
History of Gasoline Alley, Gasoline Alley started as a strip centered around a garage called Gasoline Alley. In 1918 cars were still new technology, cars had been around for about 30 years but it wasnât until the 1910âs with Ford developing the Automobile Assembly Line that most people could afford cars. To make a comparison cars in 1918 was like the internet in 1995 the start of the era when cars became a part of everyday life and like the internet popular culture became obsessed with cars with both books, movies, and comic strips based around cars and car culture.
You can also read this as âYou mean Mutt and Jeff?â âNo, ITâS (Mutt and Jeff) funny. (I mean) ITâS (the one Iâm referring to) called MUTTSâ

Has Phyllis ever appeared when they visit the home? My impression is that these are retired comics. Phyllis died, but the comic went on.
