Right on, Rat! If you don’t, someone from left or right will try to tell you how to live… What happened to Moderate Americans, who leave living Life to each individual?
Reminds me of my brother, who loves to talk about how big his TV is. He thinks he’s impressing people. He’s not. They aren’t really resentful, either, just bored. It’s a damned shallow and uninteresting topic of conversation.
And everywhere you look, you see that the bad-behaving, rude, artless greedy have gained control, power and wealth. And you still haven’t figured THAT out.
The thing is that now we have one who admits to all those failings. The others who came before covered them up with slick rhetoric to convince people that they weren’t wanting power, wealth, and control!
I’m missing that gene. I live comfortably but not lavishly. I have an 18 year old truck. I don’t bother my neighbors and they don’t bother me. We wave and speak, and I wouldn’t hesitate to ask them for help, but we’re not buds. I don’t care what you own as long as you can afford it and it makes you happy. My TV isn’t the biggest or latest. I don’t go overboard on my hobby. I’m semi-retired, doing a little work as needed. I visit my kids and grandkids. I get to take a trip once a year, usually to visit family. I eat well enough, but very seldom go to a “fancy” place. Would this all change if I had a small fortune? Interesting to ask. I might get a slightly newer truck. I’d give the kids money. Otherwise, I really don’t know. If anyone cares to perform a little social experiment, send me all your money.

I honestly don’t get the “watch as jewelry” thing. To me that makes as much sense as having a calculator as jewelry.

Straightforward and clear-thinking. No wonder Rat is so often depicted as President!
