When, I was a child, I still remember my father and older brother having a lengthy discussion about the flying saucer crash that had been reported on the radio. Yes, the radio news reported it as a flying saucer or a flying disc that crashed in New Mexico.

In the summer of 1947 a Project Mogul balloon, probably NYU Flight 4 launched June 4, 1947, crashed in the desert near Roswell, New Mexico.

Please correct me if wrong, But I distinctively remember that the explosion from the Illidim PU-36 sounded like this; “Kabblooie” and not the simplistic “BOOM!” I was there when it went off

The USAF was not founded until 1948. In 1947 it would have been the US Army Air Force. Sloppy…Sloppy.
