This was later done in the long-forgotten Peanuts special, “There’s No Time For Love, Charlie Brown,” when they ended up in the supermarket instead of the art museum.
That’s why you can’t really take back words. They reveal what’s in your heart, and that’s what hurts. It’s that Patty would actually think that about Chuck.
When I was a teenager, my mother had a dear friend who had a daughter about my age (our moms were so close that I referred to the daughter as “cousin”). One summer she spent most of it with us, which was fine with me…until it was time for back-to-school shopping, which was usually a special time for my mother and me. When my mom asked if I minded if “cousin” joined us, I was upset and said so. Unfortunately, “cousin” overheard and ran away. She was eventually found, I apologized profusely, and we all went shopping together. It turned out that cousin’s family was going through a tough time, which was why she spent so much time with us, and my comments were doubly hurtful in retrospect. I have used this story for my daughters, to teach them, “Before saying anything about anyone, pretend that they’re just about to come around the corner behind you and will hear it.”
Patty, that is NOT an apology of any kind… not knowing he was listening means you still think that about him. It is no wonder he is on his way home, with thinking like that…
Walking to school one morning, 6th grade one of the girls ahead of me who was " just one to the kids" said something about “That CREEP” CHARLES…. She didn’t know I was behind her….Ouch (Like Charlie Brown)…best thing that ever happened to me. Major “Wake up call”..She never remembers she said it, and I’ve never forgotten it.We have been dear Friends for over 62 years now…

Chuck is the kind of guy who’d make a faithful loyal boyfriend or husband.

If you want someone interesting, live of the party, chances are he’ll not be a one-woman man. Too many choices and temptation for him out there.

Wait until Charles is married and he finds out what his wife thinks about him.

I’m pretty sure I saw this scene go down in an animated special when the characters ended up in a supermarket instead of the museum.

It shows that Peppermint Patty is tactless and insensitive to other people, especially Charlie Brown.

That’s what kids do – never give yourself away. We know PP has a crush on CB. But she would never admit it for fear of being rejected and humiliated.

I didn’t know the meaning of “Ha ha, Herman” that Charlie Brown is saying in the last panel. Uncle Google told me:
As far as I can tell, Schulz made this up. It’s basically hide-and-seek, except the person hiding shouts “Ha ha, Herman” when ready.

Why, for heaven’s sake, is it called “Ha,ha, Herman” ?
