Well, I’d say Peppermint Patty has served notice. The thing is, at that age, girls are still usually about the same size as boys…I can still remember a couple girls in grade school who were worth avoiding a fight with.
Rule being right or not (now or way back then), the key is to adhere to the rule in your own way PP… find a way to wear the dress/shoes in your own way… ;-)
Strange, 1972 is the time when school dress codes were becoming more relaxed in some parts of the country. But then again, a few years ago a little girl was sent home from Kindergarten for having blue and green hair.
Poor Peppermint Patti – “girls” were not allowed to wear pants/shorts to school until I was in 12th grade………growing up in upstate NY, you got use to frozen knees walking to and from bus stop and waiting for bus :(

Scotsmen hate being laughed at as well when non-Scottish people mistake a kilt for a skirt.

One of my identical twin daughters was very anti-dress. The other preferred them.

She did find a dress that’s just the same as her shirt, only longer.

I think she looks pretty much the same, except for wearing shoes. The shoes should really annoy her. She can always wear shorts under her dress.
