The Mall of America is also pretty big in which you could get lost. So I guess don’t stand too idle if you don’t want too much body heat while trying to find a bathroom or the parking lot.
Having been there a few times (it’s mainly for the tourists who love to shop), it does maintain a comfortable temp… it would have to be exposed to the outside air for a LONG time to become cold, given its size…
The company I worked for at one time tried setting the thermostats @ 66 degrees during the winter trying to save on electricity. One of the vice presidents noticed the air conditioning was running and wanted to know why. Turned out that even in the coldest winter the lights, body heat and other things gave out enough heat that the AC had to run to get the temp any lower than 72 d. The AC for the computer room to quit working when the outside temp got lower than 36 degrees and the computers gave off so much heat they would shut down due to over heating.
I took over a mall restaurant and it had been opened for 7 years. Finally, on one really cold day (Midwest), it got just a little uncomfortable in the dining room. But the kitchen and line were fine. We called in an HVAC repairman and he told us the heat had NEVER been hooked up and therefore had never been on!
The movie “Enter the Dragon” also used gang members as extras; rival gang members, as it happens. The big fight scene at the end saw a number of very real injuries inflicted on both sides.
Glowworms aren’t the only adult insects who have short lives and lack digestive systems. Some can only live for hours, or even minutes. In fact the shortest lived insect, the mayfly dolania americana, has females with an adult lifespan of only 5 minutes!
There are many movies and tv shows who use real gangsters as extras. Some even went on to make actual careers of it and getting lines and everything. It’s not unusual, at least not these days. Maybe it was just strange for the time that’s referenced in this strip.
Of Course the “extras” in THE WARRIORS were real gang members. Duh? And the came with their own wardrobe. In Tuscon AZ movie companies would come down to the Plasma Center and the “Mission” to look for extras for “Westerns”. Lots of Indigenous Americas, and long-haired Hobos, to fill the town and the Saloon. Just give the winos Cowboy Hats and the scene is done. ($50/day for non-speaking roles, with Free Food and Beer in 1990)

Somethings missing for sure. At night you’ve got no skylight benefit, no bodies, and I’m sure the shops turn off most of their lights.

The individual stores do have heating systems in the mall, Also entrances and some below ground areas are heated.

They call it superinsulation. Yes, you can have your house built that way, but probably not as a retrofit.

What about cooling ? If superinsulated would not the moisture build up and form clouds ?

I’ve seen stories that MOA isn’t that great anymore due to the influx of undesirable aliens.

So I guess inviting a female glowworm to a nice dinner before a nightcap at the apartment is not on the table.

I prefer how “The Pursuit of Happyness” hired real homeless people.

Poor glowworms. Also, how does a person find a hotel when lost?

Lightning bugs, just like mayflies, so called because they may not.
