Hard to say if it’s a lament or a weird sort of boast, but I’ve long said that I have the dubious distinction of one of the widest skills-to-coaching ratios in all of swimming. It’s not that I’m that bad a swimmer, and I’ve certainly improved immensely. (Because I definitely have BEEN that bad a swimmer.) I guess it’s more of a recognition of just what good coaches I’ve been fortunate enough to stumble across. And it’s a great motivation for me to try, for the rest of my life, to live up to that guidance.
I’ve had the same luck with people who have written blurbs and forewords for my books. Either it would be unseemly to drop names or totally savvy marketing to send you looking for the books*, but the same holds true: I’m not sure I deserved what they wrote, and I certainly didn’t deserve to have the likes of them write it, and I’ll spend the rest of my days trying to live up to it.________
*But the smart money is on I’m terrified I’ll leave someone off the list, since I am an airhead

Way to go, Frazz!

Wait… Frazz wrote his blurb on the back, and THEN she had to make sure the essay deserved it? What did Frazz write on the back of then?

It’s kinda like that when writing computer programs. Not a bad idea to start with the user manual and then make the program do what it says.

The Pygmalion effect works. More parents and teachers should try it…..and, oh yeah, more janitors, too!
