We had an old German friend who lit his tree with candles every year. When we came to his Christmas party he not only lit the candles, he took sparklers, bent the handle wires, lit them and hung them all over the tree. When he did that we and most of the other guests stood around near the door. He claimed that he never had a fire in his life, though.
