    Good morning™, sewer travelers!

So, our now-split-personality character wants to be called Splitface now? It’s not quite the same as the Haf-and-Haf of old.

Also, it doesn’t seem that the “accident” was caused by Zelda.

Interesting tie in to the Dick Tracy (1945) film which had Splitface as the main villain. Side note, Haf and Haf didn’t appear until 1966.

That’s not how I remember it. I remember an auto accident where he collided with a tanker truck, which was carrying some corrosive chemicals. He was thrown from his vehicle and wound up lying unconscious in a pool of the chemicals, which disfigured one side of his face.

Swam through a sewer, came in contact with toxic waste. Turned his skin chalky white and his hair bright green.

Dealing with David’s comment, the original story has not been retconned. Reading the first panel in today’s strip, it clearly states that the first time he escaped the psychiatric facility was in a sewer where he swam in even more goop. Too separate incidents. I also recalled the Splitface character as the second in the RKO Radio movies. They did the same thing with Gruesome, which was the fourth and last.

“Are you a comic book villain? Have you spent years developing a completely impossible – yet utterly appropriate for the medium – backstory, only to have some Johnny-come-lately try to lift it for a guest shot? You may be entitled to compensation! Call the law offices of Joker and Two-Face, LLC at…”

Splitface in the 40’s Dick Tracy film was played by long time character actor Mike Mazurki. His “split” was basically a long scar, looked nothing like Haf n Haf, nor Two Face. This will be possibly the third character lifted from the films, the aforementioned Gruesome, and Cueball. Perhaps the next will be The Claw, a villain from Dick Tracy’s Dilemma, played by baddie Jack Lambert. Everything old is new again.

A Shawshank Batman synthesis. As to Batman, Joker or Two-Face?

And here we get some vital backstory, as well as a third name for the 3 Faces of evil-doer: Tulza Tuzon; Haf n’ Haf; Splitface. At least the numbers add up. I look forward to seeing him face-to-face(s)….

I suppose “Third-and-Third-and-Third” would have been too long a name, hence him settling on “Splitface”.
