well, at least it wasn’t Charles (whatever middle name is; I’ll go with Phinehas) Brown or he’d REALLY be in trouble

Mine never went that route: All I heard was “GET IN HERE NOW!” and I knew to be afraid.

I don’t think that was his mother. It didn’t sound like a trombone.

I’m glad Charlie Brown ultimately was able to lose some of that baby weight in his head.

Has to be one of the very, very few times an adult has actually spoken on this strip.

You know, my parents NEVER used our full names when we were in trouble. Not even just first and last. The tone with which they said our names would indicate what level of trouble we were in. An angry, growly barkish tone meant big trouble (likely a spanking coming). The more singsongy tone (“Oh Giiiiiiinaaaaaaa, come heeeee-eeeere.”) was more used for things like a messy room, or sneaking out to play without doing something I was supposed to first. I remember Mom once calling me Young Lady for going out to play without her checking my homework.

Here’s a few warning signs you might in be headed in the wrong direction:

    1. Your first name vs a nickname.

    2. First and Middle name – you may be past the point of no return.

    3. Your full name – You might as well just prepare yourself for the worse.
