My father would hire a piano tuner to come in periodically. I never noticed him using a hatchet or saw, but then, I wasn’t watching that closely.

Let me guess, he’s one of those “I’ll have it fixed in a jiffy for you.” kind of guys?

A friend who worked construction in Virginia said the guys would ask for a “North Carolina Screwdriver,” which turned out to be a hammer.

Don’t blame him for running. Never heard of a piano tuner who needed a ladder just to tune a piano. Or a hatchet, chisel, or a rip or crosscut saw.

Schroeder was a smart kid back then.
