And Good Olâ Charlie Brown sums up the reason people continue following stupid traditions. As for me, my take when someone insists I follow along a tradition I donât like is commenting, âHey, it used to be traditional to sacrifice the first born; youâre the first born, right?â Oddly enough, nobody seems to be swayed by that argument. Oh, well. Iâll just keep on doing it that way. ;)
I used to live in a county that was a little, errrr, backward. I always thought they shouldâve replaced the slogan on the county seal with the Latin phrase, âSemper Feci Sicâ (loosely translated: âWeâve Always Done It That Wayâ).
In my youth, every family had a Monopoly set with some pieces missingâand one of the first things to go missing was always the rules sheet. Every family had added some rules of its own that were never in the official rules, and if you went to play at a friendâs house, youâd first have to go over all the variations youâd heard of and agree on which ones you were using.
âYou stay in Jail forever unless you pay or throw doubles?â
âPenalties from Chance and Community Chest get piled in the center of the board and collected by the next person to land on Free Parking?â
âYou collect double if you land on Go instead of just passing it?â
