Wilberforce was on the right track but if you truly want to be lazy and precise, you stack up your 50 pennies and line them up against another stack of 50 so they’re level heightwise and continue making identical stacks until you have enough for $500. Personally, I’ve always preferred using the paper rolls but they’re neither needed nor wanted today.
