They’re hiding something.

Exiles? We don’ allow no stinkin’ exiles! We don’ got to show no stinkin’ mercy! We terminate troublemakers…

Give us the dittos so that we may use them. Then you can stay with us forever and ever and……. I bet this guy is the big kid’s dad.

Current job rate: Five jobs averaging four months a job. That means they’ve been there around sixteen months.

Even the rich need workers to keep them up at the top. No robots around.

So, he’s not actually allowed to leave?

I think the key word in this strip is “maintain”, it seems like this colony doesn’t want to expand, or grow, or anything. The ones in charge think things are just fine as-is, and don’t want to change the status quo.

So now we see the upper echelons, the nice suits, the ties, the well groomed look. And the same old refusal to countenance new ways of doing things. Above all – maintain the status quo!

If there has ever been anything those in power fear, it is power that they do not control themselves. A mere apocalyptic world change would have little effect on that…

Don’t succeed—-fail our way.

This is how NIMBYism works.

There’s a reason we created the status quo. Please don’t make us explain it.

Alas, poor Wally! I know how you feel. Strive to be more efficient and get knocked back down to the standard of, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” routine! I wonder how the plant outside of his window is doing?

It looks like both Wally and Chic not only have a difficult time fitting in, but they want conflict. Chic keeps picking fights that he can’t win, and Wally does as well, in his own way. Eden has a carefully laid out order, and understandably so since they need to provide to maintain a stable population and escape Topsider notice…so they can’t afford to have someone rocking the boat.

And Wally has too much of the wasteland in him to really fit into any sort of civilization for very long.

In other words, just be an average or even a below average worker so you won’t make you fellow worker feel bad. Mediocrity is what we want.

Stop being TOO GOOD at your job!

The guy looks like a televangelist to me. Well versed in persuading the unintelligent to work against their own best interest to further his.

Remember: No Good Deed goes unpunished.

Does anyone else look at this guy and hear Doc Gerbil’s voice from Courage the Cowardly Dog?

So this is where the politicians ran to when the world ended.

Dude wants to get the job he been assigned done. he has a way to do it cause everyone else was literally just sitting around playing cards.this is basically saying stop doing anything and we won’t do anything to you.

These guys have a “standard” of living that these dittos can certainly be conscripted to improve. Unfortunately for them, they don’t really know Wally or the dittos. There’s trouble ahead, for Wally a little, for them, a lot.

It seems they may just want him to stop being “helpful” and get with the program. Maybe use him on the inside, or get a lobotomy.

Keep everyone at the lowest common denominator.
