    As far as losing the ‘quiet’ factor, my personal first choice is the music played in stores. My second is obnoxiously loud conversations on cell phones in waiting rooms and restaurants. If I used social media, that would be my third. In its place there is Buttercup in D.C., who, even when he is silent – a rare occurrence – generates sonic waves of disruption to our lives.

    “The price of anything is the amount of life you exchange for it.” Henry David Thoreau

    “What lies behind us and what lies ahead of us are tiny matters compared to what lives within us.” Henry David Thoreau

    A Piece for Assorted Lunatics by Floyd Pink

    * *

    Every year is getting shorter

    Never seem to find the time

    Plans that either come to naught

    Or half a page of scribbled lines

    Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way

    The time is gone, the song is over

    Thought I’d something more to say
