So that’s where that cliche came from. Fits.

And you could appreciate the artwork on the album covers, and frequently there were lyrics and liner notes.

My father sure didn’t listen to groovy music on our record player, but (I guess) I did. Your ears are analog, records are analog and CDs etc are digital. Phonograph sound is the best but you have to spend a lot to be able to tell the difference.

Vinyl is back. Every group now releases on vinyl records again recognizing the superior range and warmth of the medium. Two years ago I purchased a new direct drive, magnetic cartridge turntable better than any I had had as a youth. One difference. This one also has a usb output for digitizing my LPs!

In the groove, coined by a dj about the needle in the record, became groovy. In the groove meant good music, or just anything good. It isn’t irony.

Other sayings possibly referring to vinyl records: “Lay down some tracks”; “Spin some tunes”; “Like a broken record”; “The tables have turned”…

I bet a bunch of kids reading this strip don’t get it. When I was a kid, vinyl was all there was. Well, that and 8-track cassettes.

“….just kickin’ down the cobblestones. Look at the fun in feelin’ groooovy! Dadadada-dada-da da da da. Feelin’ grooooovy!” Happy summer song from Simon and Garfunkel. Used to sing it as I was walking home from the train station my first summer out of school.

That’s what I was listening to last night instead of the farce on TV.
