Was her gut reaction due to school lunches? I remember those cafeteria lunches with a bad memory. The Navy had better meals. But then then the ship’s cooks shared the same ship as everyone else, and we could retaliate. We couldn’t do that to the people who cooked my school lunches.
I taught literature and composition for thirty years. I had Sally’s attitude toward much of the crap that the state-mandated curriculum forced me to teach.

Wow, Sally’s doing world history! In my little Midwestern town at that time, you had to be in highschool to study that.

Henry (Henri) IV of France, Antoine of Navarre. HR Emperor Henry IV, yes, Henry III. I’m out of Henry’s.

I’m with Sally on this one. In school they spent way too much time on frivolous things and not enough time on the three Rs

Depends. Henry of England, Henry of France, or Henry of somewhere else?

Why should children learn historical nuisances such as names of past rulers. They can be left to enjoy the present.
