Not content simply to have made a mess digging into the cereal box for the free smiley face (the emoji of 1990), Lizzie is proudly displaying the prize while carrying around the cereal to leave a mess all over the floor. Judging from the amount of the cereal falling off her arm, she really dug into it. I doubt there is any cereal left in that box that is edible, except maybe the stuff on the floor. I think this happened maybe once when I was growing up and after that my mother changed the rules for getting prizes out of cereal boxes, where the prizes were evenly distributed between all the siblings and no one destroyed food to get to them.

Didn’t Michael teach her to open the bottom of the box?

Need to teach her the big bowl trick. Still, she seems happy with the chintzy prize. I remember when there was a real toy inside.

The trail of crumbs always leads from the kitchen to the television. At least it did in my home.

That a a million other reasons: Legos, cat throw up, twigs and stuff from outdoors, dog chew toys, dirt…With pets and kids around, you can’t keep the floors constantly swept.

    Lynn’s Comments:

One more thing that really happened. I began to think my kids and husband owed a huge debt of gratitude to the strip…which happily ate up anything I could make into a daily or Sunday cartoon.

When my kids were little, there’s no way I’d go around barefoot. Those Legos hurt.

You guys are missing the big picture – Elizabeth is learning to get her own breakfast. In the end it will help her mom out, she just has to chill until then.

When I was in high school, I woke up one night and went to the kitchen. I didn’t turn on the light, just walked through, and felt something cold and really squishy under one of my feet. I turned on the light and saw it was a fish stick! How it got there, and why one of the dogs hadn’t found and eaten it, I don’t know. But from then on, when I was walking around at night, I turned the light on first!
