And it’s Mrs. God that always has to mop up the floor after Him, and get Him to throw his undies in the hamper.

Brave puppy. My dogs were okay with thunder as long as we were all in the same room. They did not necessarily need attention but they got a lot closer to me.

I worked on a farm that had a dog that did not take kindly to strangers, including me. One day a thunderstorm drove us inside. Dog didn’t like thunder so he crawled under the chair I was sitting in. It started thundering louder and dog tried getting further under the chair. I reached down and patted him trying to assure him things would be fine. He calmed and we were pals for the rest of my stay on the farm.

We used to have a St. Bernard who would hide under the kitchen table when it stormed. You’d have thought we were having a séance!

Our mini-Chihuahua (RIP) didn’t get all excited about lightning, My wife is a different story. There were two hits within 100’ of our country house last summer. When the bang proceeds the flash, that’s too close!

I take my dog outside during thunder storms and sit calmly on the porch with them. They get used to it and are good to go.

This reminds me of the time the whizzbangingthunderboomers came through in the middle of the night when my son was at the pulling-himself-up-in-his-crib stage. I love those storms but my ex was all worried about whether the kid would be scared. Then we heard a little voice across the hall yelling “BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!” I went to his room & found him standing there, bouncing up & down excitedly & having a wonderful time.

Long ago I had a Sheltie, Douglas, who was fearless. My mother would shy away from doors and windows during thunderstorms, but Douglas would sit on the front porch to watch storms…and, for that matter, firecrackers on the Fourth of July.

Indeed … poor Doug. The food analogies are clever, though—and I love Doug’s eyes in panel 3.

    Made me chuckle.
