When they’re earning a paycheck, they’ll learn to never throw away food.

I always felt that the scenario that seemed to fit best was the parents were killed in a car accident when the kids were tiny babies and they have been with grandma ever since. Kids were too young to miss parents and grandma has been too busy to let grief interfere. (meaning I couldn’t find an answer either, so I made up my own)

She might take to the level and toss out a couple of kids.

My father produced 3 children then decide he had had enough and left my mother alone to earn a living. And that was in the 1960’s.

Canned asparagus tips are expensive! My wife tells me that when her son (my step-son) was small, canned asparagus was the only vegetable she could get him to eat. I always really liked both, however my mother hated Lima beans – apparently her father loved them so they had them like every night when she was growing up, and she grew to detest them!

Those canned goods could have been donated to a food bank.
