In addition to changes in the tax laws, this year the IRS had to contend with being thrown out of work for a month due to the government shutdown that they never asked for and nobody (well, ALMOST nobody) wanted. I realize that they’re the federal agency most people feel free to hate, but spare a moment of sympathy for the poor schmucks who are just trying to hold down a decent job like the rest of us. This can’t be an easy time for them.
I’m waiting for my accountant to finish the s-corp taxes. They finished last years in July after I nagged them about every other week. Looks like I will have to do the same this year. I wonder if they does this to all their accounts.
Didn’t get my last paperwork until the first week of March. Then, procrastinated as always until the last full week before the deadline. Spent three and a half days doing the various forms for state and federal and got them into the mail yesterday (Saturday, 13 IV 19) [as an official Old Fart, I always do my taxes on paper rather than electronically]….
We usually gather all our paperwork by the end of Feb, mail to our accountant, she sends back the final stuff, we sign and away it goes! Not this year, my husband’s physical and mental health have had him in the hospital and rehab since last November. I think he gave me all the paperwork he got, but we are missing several important 1099s. I sent my accountant everything we had, she said she would file for an extension and I get to contact the companies whose 1099s we can’t find. My husband did find the SSA 1099 for the year before – so my accountant will have to file an amended for as well. Sigh. This year (include a good part of last year) has been one fiasco after another.
