My vegan husband has gout, which seems really unfair since it is often associated with a red meat diet. The colchicine he got from the doctor to control flare ups wasn’t seeming to help anymore and he was worried he would have to start taking a daily medication and out of desperation he took tumeric and it worked wonderfully. (keep in mind he also avoids foods that are triggers as much as possible)
I, too, suffer from gout, stereotypically a rich old white man’s disease!! LOL I’m not rich, old, or a man, either!! Believe it or not, eating cauliflower caused my gout to flare up badly, so I avoid it, and eat cherries if/when it flares up. Otherwise, one gout pill per day, plus watching my diet, controls it. Oh, boy, was it painful when I was first diagnosed. Steroids took care of that, though.
What foods do avoid for gout? So far no gout for me, though I did have aunt had that plus late in life her kidney’s started die, she chose no dialysis.

And like diabetes, you have to have the self control to give up the foods that make you ill. Most don’t.

I have so often read or watched scenes where gout is treated as a comical ailment, when it is one of the most excruciating things one can endure.
