Calvin’s continuing a proud history of human sacrifice.

I used to wonder why Calvin’s family would be at a stranger’s wedding, before realizing maybe it’s someone his parents know that Calvin doesn’t.

Imagine if he actually brought Hobbes. He would probably ruin the wedding with a surprise pounce.

Dad is safe. Hobbes prefers his meat a bit more tender.

I love how Dad seems to be as bored as Calvin is. And check out Mom’s side-eye to Dad’s yawning in the first panel!

Have you considered the fact that Hobbes can let himself into the fridge

For crying out loud, Calvin, most ceremonies only go on for 10-15 minutes. Oh, wait, for Calvin that’s a long time.

I’m with Dad. Wedding are boring. I even had a hard time staying awake during my own.

Calvin is mirroring Mom’s expressions, angry and sad.

I well remember how numbing it was to be a kid at a wedding.

I always thought that this one would’ve been a bit funnier (and maybe saved Bill another week’s worth of strips) if Calvin had had to have been the emergency Ring Bearer, too.

So apparently Dad refused to turn the car around. He may regret that later. Also note the last panel where Dad looks like he’s starting to fall asleep. Mom’s eyes are too filled with tears to notice.

I always cry at weddings. And, funerals.

And at buffets when they run out of shrimp.

I haven’t attended a wedding, funeral or graduation in years. If my plans hold true, I will attend only one of those three events ever again.

I think today highlights very astutely how Dad and Son are reflections of the same character. Dad is equally as bored as Calvin…. but he has to show it in more adult approved ways, whereas Calvin is more “free” with his expression. I think really, this reflective dynamic is seen in so many ways in this amazing comic. Dad knows and understands Calvin so well because he really is in many ways a new, young version of himself. So, Dad knows when to be upset, knows when to joke around….. with Calvin.

For me, this is the current beauty of this comic that I tend to focus upon. Even with them all being reruns to me, with this slightly different mindset…. I see the comics in new, very wonderful ways.
