My elementary teacher said the airport terminals in Hawaii were covered, but not enclosed. I couldn’t picture it until I got there, but the weather is mild enough for them to get away with it. By now, the gate waiting areas are enclosed and air conditioned, but the rest of the airport, and the malls, are open to the ambient air temperature, and birds.
When I was in HS we flew from Chicago (68º) to Phoenix SkyHarbor where we deplaned onto the tarmac (117º) and hotfooted it into the air-conditioned terminal (75º)… talk about shock.
Temperature shock is a hard thing. And recent. We are still mostly evolved to survive Pleistocene climate. But changes have been made over the last 13,000 years. As long as the environment is dynamic evolution will be busy adjusting. If it isn’t there isn’t much evolution necessary beyond what you already have. And we have changed the environment considerably, and the climate as well. So much so that the climate of the world today is different from what it was just 30 years ago.
You can always tell a multi-generational Florida native.
They are the ones inside with the air conditioning. Go to the beach? In summer? In the DAYLIGHT??? Good way to die of heatstroke. You go to the fishing pier at the beach about 3a.m. After you catch a bunch of fish, you go and start up the grill on the beach and have breakfast at dawn. Then you go home to the air conditioning.

Horace has adjusted to climate control, inside. What would his fellow Houyhnhnms say to that?

If God had intended for us to be outside on a hot day he’d have made us be born out there!

If only someone would fix that outdoor thermometer!
