Also redundant: this is worse than the weather BACK in (pick any year in the past). Any earlier time is automatically past/back.
When I was a boy, we had something planned once. When it started to rain, my father said, “I sure hope this rain keeps up.” I asked why he would say such a thing, and he replied, “If it keeps up, then it won’t come down.”
