Go and look at some design magazines and get ideas. Hide or eliminate clutter. De-personalize the house (no family photos, for example). If you’ve ever checked out model homes in a new development, that will give you an idea of the look to go for….especially what is “trending” in color schemes. And if this is beyond you, simply hire a stager.
I don’t think they’re trying to sell the house, so they should decide what it is they’re looking to do. Stop talking about “staging” and be specific. Oh, and try to be funny again.
If you put smaller furniture (or less furniture) in a small room, it looks bigger. That’s one purpose of staging. We sold a house once that we had furnished with smaller pieces – because the rooms were small! (and the furniture was perfect for it.) Didn’t take a rocket scientist to know that, but our buyers (who actually WERE rocket scientists) filled those rooms… a giant sofa & big, overstuffed chair in the LR, a huge table and big-profile chairs in the kitchen. They were not happy, but it was their own fault for not recognizing the room size to begin with.

I’ve never staged any house I’ve sold or bought one that had been staged. Empty and clean works.

My house is staged, Salvation Army/Goodwill with a dash of clutter and a pile of good books.
