Wait a second you mean you are allowed to correct people when they get your name wrong. I will have to try that. I have been answering to different names my entire life… Doug, Don, Mark, Rod, Ron, Dude, Big Guy, Sue, and occasionally Rob which is what my birth certificate says my name is.
Back when I was in the high school band, one time our director got mad at me, he looked straight at me and said, “Richard!” I replied with, “My name’s not Richard,” to which his comeback was, “You’re right. Like everybody else in this room, I know that your name is Fred.”
“I’m not Rappaport.” “And you’ve changed your name?” (exchange between Walter Matthau and Ossie Davis, “I’m Not Rappaport”, don’t remember the year or the studio, and I think it was based on a play).
