No, that’s NOT the definition of insanity! But quoting it may be the definition of stupidity. (Yeah, yeah, I know what someone’s gonna say, but even smart people can say and do stupid things.)
Practice is changing what you do until you get the desired results and then those results are obtained, doing it over and over again to maintain those desired results.
Ah, the famous quote that is incorrectly attributed to Einstein and which he never even would have said given the expected uncertainty in results with each time sampled.
I have to wonder when I hear someone introduced as a practicing physician or a practicing lawyer, “How long until he/she finishes practicing and starts doing it for real?”
Depends on the scale. If you are counting photons going through slits, getting exactly the same result every single time, there’s a problem. If, on the other hand, you are counting elephants in the enclosure at the zoo and you DON’T get the same number every day, there’s a problem (unless, of course, you know the reason why).

Caulfield, have you seen any of those professional athletes or musicians?

Expecting same results.

In statistical analysis, if you do the same thing over and over and get the same results, then there is a problem with your measurement system.

You practice for better results…which makes them different in a good way. “Practice makes perfect”.

I think Practice is doing the same thing over and over to IMPROVE results—

Having someone else doing the same over and over again and hoping for improving results is the definition of a optimist. If you’re a teacher that is.
When you have less and less favorable results, that’s called wear or fatigue. Teachers be warned: that is contagious.

Not to ruin the joke, but practice assumes one gets better, not just the same result.

Practice is doing the same thing over and over to perfect the same outcome.

I guess I must be insane. I keep reading comments and expect them to respond to the JOKE, not just keep correcting the Creator’s grammar/syntax/logic.

Practice is doing the same thing over and over expecting the same result. Expecting the same result is the key word, not expecting different results.

Caulfield’s question assumes that one makes no mistakes in practice, and that one doesn’t correct those mistakes the next time.

I looked in the same box three times yesterday for something. The third time it was there.

By that logic, playing the same number repeatedly in the lottery is insane.

I’ve wondered this for a long time, and pondered it over and over again and never came up with an answer. But then I came up with a use for it.
Did I just negate myself? Or did I make some kind of quantum leap?

The premise is faulty. That saying is invalid. But practice is said to make perfect.

Practice is doing the same thing over and over expecting better results, or doing it over and over with slight variations seeking to improve.
