Don’t expect her to wash that for you Earl. Likely it hasn’t been washed since your dad blew his nose in it.

I wonder what paternal momento Opal has and what maternal momento Earl has.

People can be sentimental about anything depending on circumstances. Almost everyone I know is sentimental about some object—-including myself.

Snot the hanky. It’s the thought that counts.

OH! Earl! It’s not the same, Earl! Sometimes you’re so insensitive…( but then so is Opal).

Don’t want to even imagine how old that handkerchief is!

Earl you just pointed out why it’s called a snot rag ! Not the same as a beautiful apron used in preparing great food for holidays .

Maybe opals mother did the same thing with the apron and that’s where the stains came from

So, she can tell a non-sequitur story and Earl has to listen, but she walks away when he tells a somewhat similar story.

Marriage.

I’m wearing my Dad’s old socks. I’m following in his footsteps!

Don’t have any such hand me downs from my parents or grandparents, but the smell of a pipe brings back a good feeling, from my gramps.

Precious memories.

After over 30 years I still have to sometimes feign interest in what my wife is interested in. (Most recently, “Oh, Citrus-spice candle? Very nice”). I must say though she is great at rewarding interest, feigned or otherwise.

My dad always used a hankie and my brother once told him “You know what the definition of a hankie is? It’s a cloth you carry so you can put something you don’t want in your nose in your pocket!”

You can still wash it.
