That’s what happens when you decide to be cryptic instead of leveling with someone that the invisible proof of everything is invisible in the first place.
Here’s a thought; since the mutations aren’t a mutagenic virus and this universe has developed ‘dittos’ aka nanobots, isn’t it possible that the mutation in form is the result of nanobots invading people’s bodies and reshaping them? Those who have a firm view of themselves as human remain human, while humans who are awake and start changing are so horrified by it that they wind up becoming ‘monsters’ because that’s what they expect, and those who are asleep shift to an animal form they feel the most in common with. The monstrous people lose their minds and all sense of self once they change and become a danger to everyone around them. Just an idea. Every effect must have a cause.
And so opens a case of new mysteries: what is the link between Duffy and the crow? Crow mentions the “chosen ones” and the invisible contents of as though Duffy would understand; why? Duffy understood that the ‘Ghost’ was something that would be revealed by paint bombs, but has he even seen a real Topsider? And what was really inside the APEX case, a cloak of invisibility perhaps? And what does that have to do with the fingers on one hand?
Wally may have left thinking he was completely being messed with and the case was empty. But if the case wasn’t empty then the whole thing gets a little more interesting. They used to call these things ‘FNORDS’ in fiction. This was back from a novel where for whatever reason humans were messed with so they couldn’t see the word ‘FNORD’. Like if you were looking where I typed at you would just see ’ ’. Once a human managed to overcome the block they would realize the word FNORD was printed everywhere. This is looking like a rather insidiously ran Topsider zoo. One where the zookeepers and their possibly grisly atrocities are hidden away from the animals via the FNORD thing.
Wally and Kirby are acting completely out of character. It’s like they’ve been hit with a Ward and June Cleaver beam. It’s up to Duffy to beat some sense into Chic.

To be honest I doubt it helped that he kept messing with him at first.

Not where I was expecting this installment to go, but I see we’re linking back with Duffy it seems.

That crow has a very cruel sense of humor.

Seems like an overreaction on Wally’s part. Unless he saw something no one else did?

I don’t blame Wally one bit. He’s practically foaming at the mouth. Let’s hope he calms down before Kirby hears him…

I see. A brief case containing the emperor’s new briefs.

Wally´s speech is high in emotion and low in information.

Interesting that paint bomb boy knows the guru. Makes losing his brother more confusing.

Wally—“Mr. Ditto Stealth”—should be one of the last characters to have a problem accepting that something is invisible.

Invisible… like the Topsider…

I am rather enamored that one of those scribble words looks rather much like RAWR.

I’m guessing that the case contained an IPU. Long may she reign.
