Coming Soon 👀 At the beginning of April, you’ll be
introduced to a brand-new GoComics! See more information here. Subscribers, check your

In France, having a few children out of wedlock does not preclude you from seeking public office. In fact, the people find it charming when they show up to support you at your political rallies.
So here’s some stuff about where the slightly altered quote comes from: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madeline. As for the artist, the Wiki article at https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jan_Verhas is pretty good, and we’re in luck; there’s a nice long paragraph in there about this painting. Turns out there was a massive parade to celebrate the silver anniversary of King Leopold and Queen Marie-Henriette of Belgium. They pulled in kids from all over the country to be in the parade.
Mxrpct felt certain that the Martian Mavern Militia would never find her concealed amongst all these look-a-like earthling children. She DID worry that the glow from her larvae sac might give her away…
(best viewed using Google Chrome, with Google Translate added to chrome://extensions, which can automatically translate most pages as necessary) has info and links that point to info about this huge, oil on canvas (a panel yards wide, really??? – sometimes you have to wonder about Wikimedia Commons file authors) painting.
all have info, or links that point to more info, about this artist, perhaps in addition to what’s pointed to by the first URL. So far, 2 works by him have been used here.Â

King Leopold had hoped to impress his new bride, Marie-Henriette with the parade of beautiful children. Unfortunately, she was a staunch proponent of zero population growth.
The painting shows 14 across, not 22. 14 across will divide evenly into 112; 22 won’t. Getting the math right doesn’t disrupt the rhythm of the doggerel

First row has 14 girls in it, and the column looks to be about 8 deep, so yep, 112 of them.
All singing 112 bottles of wine on the wall, 112 bottles of wine,Take one down, pass it around, 111 bottles of wine on the wall…
