They were fun and then idiots started throwing them at each other and now there is but one more āsafeā toy. Thank God I grew up when I did, unprotected but a lot better off than the coddled kids of today.
Two things that bring people into an emergency room more than lawn darts, or even fireworksā motorcycles ( big time) and bunk beds- which most people would never even think of. I believe manufacturers have responded to that by making the upper bunk into a virtual cageā wonder how that works out when there is a fire?
Trampolines are right up there as well. It is amazing the number of children under the age of two years that come in with injuries, usually caused by being on the thing with an older child or in one case, an adult.

Yes, all of that was true back then. And, you knew who you were then. Girls were girls and men were men, and black people knew that they were inferior and didnāt expect to be treated with respect or even common decency. And, gays, of course were no problem because everyone knew that they were a myth. Would I want to go back to the way it was in 1950/60? There is a lot to miss, but over all, I think we are moving toward a better society. If I really want a family dinner, I imagine I can shame my kids into going along with it. No guarantees, however that they wonāt be playing games on a phone hidden in their lap.
Jarts, as the ones we had were called, were so much fun. My husband and I played against my parents when we got together on Friday evenings. That was usually followed by some games of 42. We have 5 children which were small back then and you know what?! No one EVER got hurt. Itās called common sense and itās a rarity these days. Such wonderful memories to have.
I went to military school. Weād send one person off the diving board, then tread water while the next person tried to see how close he could come to hitting the first person without actually hitting them.
And weād crawl the length of the pool on the rafter, then drop in from 15 or 20ā above the water.

Like when playing horse shoes, you all stood at the throwing end of the game. (until the second case of beer was gone)

They seemed like fun at first but people eventually got the point about them being dangerous!

every old man in history gripes about those young folks who donāt do or arenāt treated the same as they were when they were young.
Iām reminded of the Broadway musical āBye Bye Birdieāā¦.one of the songs from it (referring to young folk)
_"why canāt they be like WE were, perfect in every way?
whatās the matter with these kids today?"ā¦ā¦_

the problems came to a head (non intended but not a bad pun) when small children wandered into the playing area,
putting themselves in obvious great danger of getting struck in the head by a a pound of plastic and metal with a pointed end
with gravity-enhanced velocity

Those were fun. Of course my older brothers made sure I was safely at the throwing end before each person took a turn.

thereās a website called peopleareawsome.com where they encourage folks to make videos of humans doing
dangerous stunts and getting away with themā¦ā¦you can go there and see all kinds of death defying stunts
making you agree that āpeople ARE awesomeāā¦. but what they donāt show is how many epic failures have
been had in getting that one good video?ā¦.Young people think they are invincible anyway, but to encourage
brainless behavior is rather reckless, I think
