Reminds me of the quote from 1066 and All That, regarding King Henry II, that I was assigned to write a paper on in high school: “Shortly afterwards Henry died of despair on receiving news that his sons were all revolting.”
Adam needs to research some art-school terms and start applying them liberally to his work. Or he could just fire up one of these handy artspeak bull$#!+ generators whenever he needs to respond to the neighborhood lowbrows. Such is the burden of the misunderstood artist…

I’m surprised that no one’s mentioned yet that the metaphorical resonance of the purity of line brings within the realm of discourse the exploration of montage elements. (response #79549)
The piece of junk won’t be there long-term, so it’s all a tempest in a teapot. His property value only matters if he is selling the house, and the same goes for the neighbors.
The neighbors just consider it an eyesore. If they had been more congenial with their request, he might have agreed to move it to somewhere they wouldn’t notice it as much. He might even have taken it down or made it more attractive if they had asked nicely. OTOH, the neighbors could just try minding their own business and not worrying about it.

Adam needs to separate the tree from the person. Just because people reject the tree doesn’t mean they reject him.

If you have a neighborhood assn you can lose both the fight and your house. Beware the HOA Nazis.

Ev’rywhere I hear the sound
Of marching charging feet, boy
‘Cause summer’s here and the time is right
For fighting in the street, boy
Hey so my name is called Disturbance
I’ll shout and scream
I’ll kill the king, I’ll rail at all his servants

Sounds like a Libertarian. Unfortunately, many of us (well, not me) actually believe that way.
Keep in mind, many (most?) HOAs go WAY too far in their enforcement of things.
