A friend or a resource? Can one pretend she is both?
A bit of doublethink going on with the boy, so young to be holding the two ideas simultaneously… as they are certainly in tension with one another and potentially contradictory.
But his awareness of the tension is revealed in the acronym [abbreviated construction rendering one neologism yielded multiaxially] in panel four.
It’s certainly possible to have a friend who is also a resource, but here he makes one definitional of the other.
Woah. Profoundly insightful…. and horribly sad as well. And…. the mixing of “friendship” and “personal gain” interspersed with fake “altruism”…. a very, very good read today…. but truthfully it is a horribly harsh insight into the mindset of many.

But…will Esther help Nancy out, even if Mildred is not there for her team to get beat? Nancy’s last attempt at an apology better have been sincere!
