The ice cream truck that preys on my neighborhood plays a repeating version of Turkey in the Straw, a song that has nothing to do with ice cream, or summer.
The world became a united place, mostly by force. A lot of Intentional Goodness got done. Hydrocarbon energy industries were squashed. The internal combustion engine died. Reduced capacity solar and wind power were implemented. The green CO2-free grid was made real. Thing was, if you didn’t have a lot of money or belong to the government class, then you didn’t have any access to personal transportation, electricity, heat or air conditioning. You just didn’t need it. You didn’t count for anything. You weren’t important. The New World Anthem, which sang of “All Goodness for all people”, meant “None for you”, to most people.

But at least you got to stay home and indoors when you pressed your face against the glass and longed for what you were denied.
That’s got to be worth something!

The last time I heard an ice cream truck it was paying the Scott Joplin rag that was used as the theme for “The Sting”.
Talk about subtle confessions.
