Well, at least enough of us worked together to accomplish a lot.
But we seem to like divided government, or so we are told.
And the republicans took advantage of the razor-edge division to push it their way and get everything they ever wanted, riding roughshod over everyone in their way.
Many people died yesterday, for nothing. This is a day for prayer, rememberance, compassion, respect and honor. Not a day for the usual. God Bless. Each man’s death diminishes me, For I am involved in mankind. Therefore, send not to know. For whom the bell tolls, It tolls for thee.
Then perhaps you should let go of your “both sides are equally bad” handwringing. One side is actually doing the work of governing and passing bills, and the other one is letting them pile up unread on Moscow Mitch’s desk.
Oh, it existed alright. There was a time when we could disagree without vitriol. There was a time when we believed that both parties wanted “the greatest good for the greatest number.” But that required not only “rights” but the concurrent “responsibilities” that attend such rights. The question today is can we return the national zeitgeist to “We, the People” instead of “Us, the Right People, against Them, the Wrong People.”
Hey, Scott, you ready to name some names or are you chicken. Let’s start with the party that intentionally and unilaterally subverted the Constitution by refusing to hold constitutionally mandated hearings on a Supreme Court Justice.
I’m curious as to whether Stantis will address with Carmen (a character of color) the discovered Reagan ethnic slur on African UN delegates, especially after that panel last week with Carmen worshiping under a Reagan statue.
So we’re admitting that our world view, sense of national identity is a delusion? Because the alternative is one of a sterile and cynical self interest.

Divided government did work, once upon a time, when parties were willing to work together (across the aisle) seeking the common good.
But that all went the way of the Newt.

Well, that time did exist but it was during World War 2. Maybe a few years of afterglow.

Carmen needs to take Moscow Mitch to the woodshed if she wants to work together to solve problems.
