That is exactly what my cat ShiBoi does when anyone knocks at our door!

Nearly everyone realizes kitties are extraordinary predators, but not as many realize that they are also prey to many other species. This accounts for many feline behaviors oriented toward safety. Running from a potential threat is one of them. There is much wisdom bound up in their kitty DNA.

Considering the recent tragedies, today’s strip is ironically appropriate.

Silver (the House Varmint) will alert me when the pizza guy is 15 seconds from knocking…

Of my cats, Baelish and Neela bolt under the bed if someone knocks on the door, Sigurd goes to the door to greet, and Aemon Targaryen doesn’t care.

So much for the hunting instinct.

My front door has an eight count chime. When my cats hear it, they all run for their lives. Most people who know this usually just knock hard as not to scare the cats.

Ours managed to unlock the wooden door on the kitchen, go in and lay on the counter tops, the kitchen table. Saw our car pull in and jump down and leave the kitchen. Our poor dog Mr. Bo was still on the table. He saw him from outside and hurried in and got him down.

Cats do not like being surprised. Cats can be tightly wound.

Even a doorbell on television startles them!
