it’s gotten to the point that it doesn’t really matter who is nominated to run against the current resident. Whoever gets the nomination has to be better than the current resident.
I feel like Poland in WWII caught between the Germans and the Russians.
I am currently fighting the Republicans because they are in power. Should the Democrats take control. I’ll have to do a 180 and attack in the opposite direction.
Kid, if you’re offered that rhetoric or kale at the dinner table, take the kale. At least you can find something to make it taste better. Even the dog won’t eat politics.
Quite right; those Democrats are too liberal, too open minded, too critically thinking, too educated, too intelligent, too humanitarian, too inclusive. Can’t have people like THAT in our political system.
I’m pretty sure that, despite the fact that you’re not allowed to vote, you’ll soon have to make a choice. Because if there is such a difference of opinion, Mom and Dad will not stay together for long.
It is interesting to me that most commenters assumed political leanings from a single sentence for each bear. I did not automatically categorise Mama Bear as a conservative or Papa Bear as a liberal.
Here’s how this story’s scenario played out in my mind: after a delicious dinner of grubs, berries and wild flower honey, the Bear family is sitting down to watch the Democratic debate. Papa and Mama are registered Independents and consider themselves to be moderates/centrists. They earnestly desire to oust the Velveeta Voldemort, because his environmental policies are endangering their habitat and limiting resources. They pay close attention to the platforms and policies discussed in the debate. As they watch the nominees verbally duke it out onstage, they assess each one. With such a large number of candidates, it is possible to find some that are too liberal or conservative for a centrist’s personal preference.
I hope the scene above would be far more common than the assumed political opposite couple. If not, voters still could identify a nominee that would be considered too liberal or conservative within their respective party.
To be fair, the political atmosphere has become quite polarized and discussions tense when not confrontational. The silent majority of moderates are overlooked as the fringe extremists usually are the most outspoken members of the two main parties. Which leads citizens to associate those views with the party, forcing the two main parties further apart on the political spectrum. I think this may be why people assumed the parents were of greatly opposed viewpoints.
Also, I agree with Pickled Pete that a “She” should have been included since there are several strong female candidates.
P.S. I use the terms moderate, centrist, conservative and liberal based on USA politics, not how they would be internationally classified.
