That would be a great way to show a reduction in a city’s crime rate, create a silly law. “Muggings and theft are up, but we are proud to say that due to our diligent police officers, we have not had a single reported incident of a donkey sleeping in a bathtub all year. We are also introducing a new law this year. It will be illegal to transport water buffalo in the back seat of your car without proper authorization.”
That donkey thing makes you wonder what the heck happened that got the law passed, kind of like the warning label on the chainsaw that says “do not attempt to stop the chain with your hands or genitals.” Like, why do you need to specify that weird thing?
The law prohibiting donkeys from sleeping in bathtubs was apparently passed in Kingman Arizona. This link takes you to the story behind this law among some of the other weird laws in Arizona.
Being a fan of archaeology, I had to look up the chessman piece: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-07-03/long-lost-lewis-chessman-piece-sold-for-$1.3-million/11272742
I have to wonder how Vikings/Norwegians/Scots in the 12th century learned to play chess.

What would induce any level of government to not only consider such a stupid situation in the first place and then legislate it ?

Is there a fine for letting your donkey sleep in the tub?

I’m sure they’ve tried to get a few elephants to sleep in tubs in Arizona.

The guy should have bought the entire chess set in 1964 then he would have had nearly 15 million dollars - boy math is easy.

So who’s charged? The donkey for sleeping in the tub or the tub for letting the donkey to sleep in it?

The story behind the donkey law is near the bottom. Based on what happened in the story I think the law was passed as kind of a joke by the town.
