LOL, Payne’s kneejerk pushback on anything the left advocates is so baked into his simple noggin, that he just assumes plastic disposables are part of the climate crisis. Maybe for the next cartoon, he’ll throw something about marriage equality in there as well.
I’m always (a/be)-mused by the folk who seem to demand that we find one thing, preferably one painless thing that will fix the climate crisis and denigrate any idea that’s not that one thing. Hello? This is a big complicated problem. Would you ask your auto mechanic to fix that engine noise using just one socket wrench?
PS: Nobody. (Except Payne and perhaps a few equally deluded souls) thinks that plastic straws, bags or bottles have anything at all to do with climate change. Restrictions on them are about reducing plastic pollution. I guess they conflate every idea that (they think/wish/blame) the damnfool liberals have and call ’em all by the same right wing “blame this today” name.
Management at the Shell factory that Trump visited in Pennsylvania mandated that employees attend and be positive about Trump or they would lose pay. This factory will be creating pellets to create new “virgin” plastic at a time when people are finally starting to pay attention to the massive amounts of plastic harming animals and people are looking to find replacements or re-use / recycle existing plastic. Trump took credit for the 5000 jobs created by the construction project, despite the factory being announced in 2012. There are expected to be less than 600 permanent employees at the factory.
Shell received MASSIVE tax breaks, along with a $10 million land grant from PA politicians. Critics have predicted that Shell will end up being the biggest polluter in the area. BTW, the pollution is from the manufacturing, as others have pointed out plastic harms animals and creates huge piles of garbage in the oceans; after manufacturing, plastic doesn’t have anything to do with climate change except for the manufacturing process.
Trump defended the investment in plastics, claiming pollution in the ocean is “not our plastic.”
“It’s plastics that’s floating over in the ocean and the various oceans from other places.”
Mr. Payne, please just retire. The kind of stuff that you spew is really Coleman and L. Brooks stuff from the way way back machine. Thank God that kind of crap has been put behind us.
If you’re looking for a bottle of water in SFO after you’ve cleared security and rushed to the gate, think again. Yes, hustling through the terminal made you thirsty, but did you pack your refillable water bottle in your carry-on?
San Francisco International Airport sure hopes so. Starting Aug. 20, you will either have to bring your own water bottle or buy an airport-approved glass, aluminum or certified compostable water bottle. Airport vending machines, shops and restaurants will no longer be able to sell you plastic water bottles, adhering to a city ordinance prohibiting the sale of plastic water bottles on city owned property, according to CNN.
It’s, granted, mostly for profits, but commercial aircraft are becoming much more fuel efficient, especially if you consider the factor of passenger mile per gallon of fuel consumed. The industry is also looking at electric airplanes for smaller aircraft, and biofuels instead of petroleum.(our town is getting a biofuel plant with a grant from the Air Force.)
What happens when you’re proven wrong about climate change (you already are wrong, but can ignore it because it’s not affecting you), but what happens when it’s too late to stop the effects of climate change and much of the world becomes uninhabitable due to extreme heat, natural disasters, famine and water shortages?

Airplanes leave every few minutes, I was there on Sunday. They are so busy at SF airport that they have two jets take off at a time.
Why do right wingers hate anyone who wants to do anything for the ecology?
