“chomping at the bits”? as in putting thoughts into his head?

That sounds vaguely obscene, and painful

An old equine saying equating impatience on a person’s part.

Believe it or not, it’s not “chomping” at the bit. It’s “champing”. Of course, nobody says it this way as the phrase has evolved. (I say it wrong too, but I KNOW it’s wrong). https://www.portablepress.com/blog/2014/04/chomping-vs-champing/

I don’t mind if my wife chomps at my bits. As long as she doesn’t chomp too hard.

She chomps like a champ. Or as others in the discussion would say, she champs like a champ.

Gee, Earl doesn’t want to go anywhere! He just wants to stay home and relax in his chair!

Yesterday it was Nelson, today it’s Opal…Earl shouldn’t make commitments that he can’t keep…

My stepdad (RIP) loved to go shopping – everywhere except the fabric store. He’d willingly drive mom there, but he’d never go in – he’d sit in the car reading until she came out.

Why does she want to go somewhere with someone that doesn’t want to go? She can have more fun going alone or choosing a more fitting company. For example, I love going to hardware store – the bigger, the better – but I would never ask to one of my sisters or girl friends to come with me. They wouldn’t like it and spoil it for me. Going with my brother in law, on the other hand, is fun. Therefore, better alone than in wrong company. :)

Either “champing” or “chomping” is ok.https://grammarist.com/usage/champing-chomping-at-the-bit/More important, it’s singular: “bit”, not “bits”.Cheers.

“Chomping at the bits” = oral sex gone wrong. Or right, if that is your taste. Obviously not Earl’s.
