I love watching news reports where they show privileged people who decided they would ignore signs and drive into the rushing water. They KNOW that nature will defer to them and they can do what they like. Of course what I dislike is the fact that good people have to risk their lives to save they butts. But I’m cheered by the fact that their insurance companies will laff at them when they make a claim for stupidity.
All I see in that panel is that if that water is above the bottom of the car doors, they’re trapped in there, with the water rising, unless they can break a window. My worst nightmare.
several years ago a friend of mine’s mother had her car break down, she asked us to push the car out of the street while she called AAA. 4 grown men puffed and wheezed and just got it out of the way when she declared “oh I left the parking brake on, isn’t that funny?”
Years ago Cucmonga Creek washed out the rod crossing it, left a 20’ drop into the creek. Despite signs and barriers one idiot manged to drive through them, they found him at Prodo Adam about 15 mi downstream.

Zonker, I see you’ve moved on from your baby-sitting job to Public Service Announcements. Is the pay better?

Zonker standing in water with downed power lines drooping into it. Oh, well, it won’t be his first electric experience.

(Yes, I get the joke) But I’m willing to bet that way too many people don’t remember how you can “flood an engine” ;)

The Flood of ’93 was no joking matter. I was almost stranded in NEBRASKA at the very beginning of that.
