I believe the Disabilities Act takes ability to perform your job into consideration. If your disability doesn’t keep you from doing your job you can’t be fired for it. However, if your disability keeps you from doing your job I don’t think it can protect you.
I’m not sure my belief about the Act is accurate. It would make sense. But the law was passed by Congress so it may or may not make sense.

With enough persistence, you can get just about anything cleared by a physician.. I know a guy who has a prescription for the darker than legal tint on his car windows…
