    For anyone missing it: E. C. Segar created the strip Thimble Theatre. It became a continuity strip with Castor Oyl as the main character. (His family included his sister Olive.) A few years into the strip a character called Popeye was introduced and most of the original cast gradually eased out. Popeye was licensed to the Fleischer brothers for cartoons and ’lo this strip was born.
