I vote that we (the US) get rid of pennies and nickels. The cash registers can just round the sales price off to the nearest dime.

I recall reading in a previous Ripley’s BION that there are more trees on this planet than stars in our galaxy. So that must mean that there are more than 400 billion trees.

He liked his freedom, and the owners were too restrictive.

we still make pennies because the donations from the lobby for the makers of the zinc plugs say we do. A government of the money, by the money, for the money.

How much does it cost to make a nickel, dime and quarter? Does it all even out?

Let’s all use dollar coins more. I get them from my bank every week for vending machines, parking meters, and garages. I would like to see them in change more often but usually only see them in vending change. A $2 coin like Canada would be great as well. Coins are more durable than paper and save the government money.

The penny is now where half-penny was when inflation caused it to be discontinued because you couldn’t buy anything with it. Get rid of it! Round to the nearest 5-cents.

Talking about the US: The threat to Britain’s imperial measures was was lifted after a climbdown by the European commission (11 Sept 07). The UK had fought against this since 1995. The “Metric Martyrs” were the start of the movement to leave the EEC. RIP Steven Thoburn.

400 billion seems a bit high. The last estimate I read was 100 to 200 Billion. And since the earth is extremely unique as far as planets go I would be surprised if very many of them had planets suitable for life.

I’ve spent a fair amount of time in the Euro zone over the past few years. Credit card use is not nearly as common as in the U.S. , forcing the carry of cash. The smallest paper money is 5 Euros. All those coins are heavy and a nuisance. ( yes there is a one Euro cent coin)

My dog is a millisecond away from becoming a feral hunter. Once while we hiked she spotted a rabbit, slipped off collar with a quick movement and was gone for forty five minutes. Poor rabbit.

Had a dog that loved to get out and hunt or wander. Couldn’t ‘catch ‘ him he’d just run further. I had to wait at home and hope he wouldn’t get hurt. He always came back for dinner. Had the hunting heart that dog.

Dog story? What really happened is their dog ran away. Then, another dog that kinda looked like their dog down at the Truck Stop. So they chased the poor critter until it got tired, and “Found” Marley. The dog was Happy where it was.
