I was in a long line and I watch. They opened up a register and the guy said to come over. I waited for those in front to go and they just stood there. I went and then they give me dirty looks as they wake up. I told them the guy called 3 times and none of you moved. Be aware of what’s around you!!
Interesting…he wants to hold on to his money, but he’s still going to spend it on stuff.
A Garfield strip from years ago still stays with me: Jon shows Garfield a cowboy hat he bought for himself. Garfield looks at the audience and says, “it always amazes me the things people would rather have than money.”
Ever since I saw that, I look at shopping as a more deliberate choice: “would I rather have [this thing], or the [XX] dollars it costs?” There are necessities, sure, but many things have gone back on the shelf over the years…
I’m having to rebuild my kitchen, no real choice in the matter because the countertops are shot, the floor is sagging, and the wiring hasn’t been upgraded since the twentieth century. I am getting the best fixtures and appliances I can afford rather than contractor grade: I keep telling myself, every upgrade is equity.
If you stand in that line Long enough, you have time to decide that two or three of the people on that list don’t Really deserve gifts from you after all.

You could argue that he has already spent the money when he walked into the store, so he’s not really holding on to it.

I don’t think it really matters whether the line is long or short, you’re still going to have to spend the money.
