So does anyone know if these strips were originally done in color…or if someone went and modified them later? They’re all set in the winter time but the grass is green in the background. Being a fellow Minnesotan I know Schulz would NOT be used to seeing that in January.
“What’s on TV that night?” is often the question I use whenever considering whether to go out, or not. I’m clearly addicted. I’ve had a TV to watch ever since 1957 when my mother got us a BW RCA TV, a nice big 19" screen in a metal case. (I even still have the case.) The sitcom I remember most during those early years was “Amos and Andy” starring real black folks. That program taught me a lot about honesty and fair play and did so with a laugh.
Yeah, some friends of mine made the unfortunate choice to have their wedding on the same day/night that “Dallas” revealed “Who Shot JR”. Of course, they had TVs set up all around the reception hall.
At least Violet is being more honest than Lucy was. Lucy’s suggestion about a testimonial snack suggested she’d at least be willing to do something for Charlie Brown, which she wouldn’t. Violet’s question really suggests she’s going to ensure she has plans.
We got our first set when I was around 3. Parents parked me in front of it for Captain Kangaroo, likely other stuff I don’t remember. Eventually as I got older three channels signed off at midnight with the flag, star spangled banner, and “Indian” test pattern.
Linus: “What’s on tonight? They’re running a marathon of ‘Peanuts’ specials tonight — A Charlie Brown Christmas, It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, Charlie Brown’s All-Stars, You’re In Love, Charlie Brown, He’s Your Dog, Charlie Brown, It Was a Short Summer, Charlie Brown, Play It Again, Charlie Brown and _You’re Not Elected, Charlie Brown!”_
(Those were all of the “Peanuts” TV Specials that had aired before today’s strip originally appeared.)

Linus didn’t way what time the dinner will be at yet. Either way, Violet will miss a specific program or few on the telly then.

2 things
1. TV existed back then. I didn’t think TV existed until 1988 (Note that The Simpsons came on the air the year after that)
2. Violet was still part of Peanuts back then???

TV was invented in the 30’s but became generally popular in the 50’s.

This strip is even more relevant today than when it first ran back when there were only a few channels.

Make it a Saturday Night, Linus. According to ratings, nothing good was on TV on Saturday nights.

The concept of TV was first demonstrated in the 1920’s. I think 1926 or there about.

I can’t think of one TV show I would find worthy of staying home for.

Lucy would rather watch binge TV than trying to decipher what is ‘testimonial dinner’.
