There is a guy on the radio that is one of many who knows officiating crews by name and knows which ones are flag happy. There are stats for everything.
On every play you can call holding (offense and probably defense) and if the receivers go down field any distance pass interferance (offensive and defensive). May football needs to be more like hockey; on major penalties involving players (unsportsmanlike, unnecessary roughness, etc) let the offending team play one (or more) player(s) down for 4 minutes. On minor penalties (pass interferance, holding, face masking, etc..) play a player down for 2 minutes, and for infractions (offsides, delay of game, etc…) do a either a loss of down or 5 yards.
Even the Spanish Language broadcasters were calling out the referees bogus calls – not just at New England ( which was out and out robbery ) but on several of the other games yesterday.
I’m usually one to give the officiating the benefit of the doubt, but this year, it really does seem that the officials are calling a preponderance of the gratuitous and/or phantom calls against specific teams. I’ve never seen such lopsided refereeing as I have this year. They’re not even trying to balance the calls.
Almost every time my team makes a great play, I hold my breath waiting for a flag to come out.Watching the Big Ten championship game I was amazed there were so few flags. Are college players better or are the NFL refs more pissy?
A group of individuals, many part timers, are given myriads of rules to enforce, most of which they don’t seem to understand. Having been instructed to let plays continue a month ago, after robbing Tampa Bay of a touchdown with a quick whistle, they did the same thing yesterday in the KC, NE game. Then they took away an obvious TD a few minutes later. In college, crews who are this brain dead get suspended. That should occur in the pros. A game or two off without pay may awaken some of these stooges. They are almost as inept as Basketball refs.
Tank needs to start accepting nominations for an appropriately named refereeing trophy with a white cane and seeing-eye dog. One for each sport and one for grand bogus call. Acting awards for pro wrestling refs. Using dogs might improve calls.

Wasn’t yesterday’s officiating crew that screwed the Patriots the same that screwed the Saints earlier this season whistling a fumble dead?

Coaches need more challenge flags, or the head office guys should overrule mistakes when they see them.

Well, fans want the officials to call every foul.

NE/KC was the first game I’ve watched in probably 5 years. Yeah. Just needed the reminder.

Funny that it started getting erratic after gambling was approved.
